When should I use past continuous?
Mister Micawber  +  47293 Sat, 25 Sep 04 04:09 PM

I am not being facetious, but use 'past continuous' for continuing actions (i.e. actions over time) in the past-- something was in progress sometime in the past:

'What did you do Sunday?'-- 'I was studying astrophysics all day.'
'My sister was washing the boa constrictor when her counselor arrived.'

I hope this helps, as a beginning.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'
