Can you call an office worker a veteran if he/she has worked for a long time?

In other words, is there any restriction on the field or industry where this word can be used?

Thanks!

Hi,

Can you call an office worker a veteran if he/she has worked for a long time? If you want to, although more common might be other phrases, eg 'a long-term employee', 'a worker with a lot of seniority'.

In other words, is there any restriction on the field or industry where this word can be used? Not really. I often hear it referring to military people and sports people. Also politicians. Interestingly, these are all fields involving some form of conflict.

Best wishes, Clive
