Hi,

My friends and me are working as servers, waiter and cook assistant in an US restaurant. We are exchange student and still learning English. We don't have lots of vocabulary of this field. Can you give me some advice ? Thanks.

Listen to the native staff.  Ask questions of them.

Mr. M's advice is very good.  I would just add that you should speak English among yourselves while on the job rather than your native language(s).

The waiter should read the order back to the customer and confirm that he or she has got it right before turning it in to the cook.  (Recently, I just about killed the waiter that brought me hot salami when I ordered smoked ham.)

Thanks for your correcting

But I really don't know what the differences between "lots of" and "a lot of" ? I think they are the same :

We don't have a lot of vocabulary in this field.

Could you explain it please !

Hello, Just a little help, maybe. I know some restaurants have a computer available, and on the right side of the google address box, there is a word "language." if you click on it, there will come up a translation page that is very simple and quick to use..if you need a special sentence fast.
Good Luck, Angel
