It was raining heavily. The roads were deserted. John was on his way cycling to school.

He peered through the rain, but he could not see the road (well).

(i) He continued cycling until he reached the bus stop. He waited at the bus stop until the rain stopped.

(ii) He continued cycling until he reached the bus stop. He waited there for the rain to become less.

(ii) He had to stop at the bus stop and wait for the rain to stop.

(iii) He waited at the bus stop until the rain (It) became small / less.

Which combination is correct? How do I correct them?

He cycled until he reached the bus stop - that part is okay. (He continued cylcing until he reached the bus stop is okay too.)

Did he wait for the rain to stop entirely, or did he wait for the rain to lessen/ease up a bit?

He waited there until the rain lessened.

He waited there until it stopped raining.

He waited there until it was no longer raining.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'
