Is a wash basin more elegant and stylish than a sink? If not, what's the difference?

It is not necessarily more elegant or stylish, but establishments may prefer to refer to wash basins rather than sinks.

Of course, sink can refer to the bathroom or kitchen, whereas wash basin would only refer to the bathroom.
