Hi, would someone please tell me what does "we are getting warm" mean (except literally getting warm)? The context is people are doing something and will reach the goal soon. Thanks.

It's usually used when a person is looking for something and is getting close.  "You're getting warm."  This could be a physical thing one is looking for or an intangible, such as an idea.  I don't believe I've ever heard it used while reaching a goal.

I think the expression must come from the old children's game called "Hot and Cold."

Thanks. "You're getting warm": does this mean "you" are looking for sth. and is getting close?

This mean that "we are getting close"

Yes. In the game, as the child who is "it" gets closer to the hidden object, the other children call out, "You're getting warmer...warmer...you're hot! You're ON FIRE!" (as the child, for example, sits down on the chair cushion that the object is hidden beneath." If he steps in the wrong direction, the other children call out "Oops, now you're getting colder..." etc.

I remember having a lot of fun playing this game.
