hi everyone...
i'd like to thank all of you for i had a good time while reading this thread.
i surfed a lot through the internet theses days looking for interesting discussions and unfortunately there are so many topics full of prejudices and hatred. And here's finally something with niveau, allthough i miss some negative opinions about germany.
i am german and if i'd be asked wether i'm proud of that...
well, a little bit...i guess ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
but actually there's one special thing in my mind facing this question.
what i'm proud of is that in my opinion most people of my country learnt something out of 12 dark years in our history and are trying to create the future in a better way.
but enough about the past...
i enjoyed reading your opinions very much...
at last something i believe in:
nature alwas tries to keep everything in balance. therefore in every country vaguely as much assholes and good people excist as in other countries. all men are equal.

am i the only person who has a little german flag on her desk? well it is not true at all that germans arent pround of beeing german. but most are afraid to show it. they just fear the reaction of other nations. sadly i made some bad experience with the reaction of other countrys citizens in this issue too. indeed im not racist or said sth like the this. i´ve had a lot discussions because of that, but people never really listened to me. it was a sad experience that most people dirctly pigeonholed me.......
of cause we have many aspects we can be proud of and we have also negative sides like many other countrys too.
i think we have to beware our language and our traditions.
it is not true that we have no own popmusic. some radio stations are going to adapt some days they play german popmusic.
but i dont approve to the opinion of "guest" who wrote the pervious article.
im sorry but when i look at our government and a person named G. schröder is re-elected 2 times, and a communistic person like wowereit is major of berlin, sorry, but what did we learn? a sustained economic growth isnt based on open promises.
in gerneral im really impressed to find less prejudices.

I'm still puzzled by the notion of being 'proud' or 'ashamed' of the few square metres of the universe where one happened to be born, or the activities of people who lived in that spot before one was born.
Is this 'pride' or 'shame' the result of a conscious decision? Or is it a physical feeling like hunger, thirst, etc?

The mind of a human beeing consists of thougts and emotions. "pride" or "shame" isnt a physical feeling but it has the same importance. it keeps our mind alive and keep us staying ambitious. everyone of us has to decide what is for the "shame" categorie and so on..
so the defenition is always different.
i want u to imagine a little story.
imagine u have some square meters of a desert. one year later, the place where once the desert was is a green garden. it is a green garden cause u placed plants there and cared for them.
arent u pround of every little progress? and does that feeling keep u going on?
pride is a positive situation which leads to positive reactions, shame is the opposite way around.
i think it seems to be obvious which feeling we need to keep our country alive isn`t it?

In Germany there is the best food in the world. Like Grühnkohl, Jägerschnitzel mit Sauerkraut and Kasseler. And of course Currysausage with Pommes Frites red-white.
We germans are the country with the second most industrie in the world behind the USA.
German culture is mainly well, because we are a country where beer is drink very much. German
beer and other alcohol like Herforder, Becks, Warsteiner, Barre, Veltins and Berliner Kindl and Detmolder, Krombacher, Erdinger Weißbier, Freiburger, Grabbe, Radler, Oettinger, Malzbier , Maisels Weiße, Franziskaner, Paulaner, Einbeck, Haake Beck, Jägermeister, Ratzeputz, Strothmann, Wachholder, Erntedank, kleiner Feigling, Obstler, Berentzen, Frühstückskorn, Underberg, Himbeergeist, Deinhardt, Rotkäppchensekt, Mumm, Asbach Uralt, Dornfelder, Moselwein, Fürst Metternich and many more!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Germans can be proud on their country, but the problem is, no one want really show that, because then they would called a Nazi by other ethnic groups. that makes me some kind of sad. I am a german myself but i'm proud of my country, exspecially what german engeneers had invented, for example: the first fuel engine was invented by a german, the system to print books by Gutenberg, the first rocket by Werner von Braun, the jet engine, color TV, the first cell phone by siemens, etc...
