Hello TimoBile, welcome to English Forums!
I still don't quite understand the drift of some of the replies on this thread.
As I understand it, people are saying that one can be proud or ashamed of being born in a certain place, where certain other people (who may have died before one was born) have done certain things.
How can one be proud of a concatenation of random events, over which one has (or had) no control?
Ich sehe es nicht ein...

It was quiet funny
to read the whole thread. I'm german, and I'm proud to be a
german.
Sometimes it's
hard to explain some narrow-minded people why I'm proud to
be a german.
I think
it's otiosely to explain it to them, so I won't do it. But - I really unterstand
the discussion
about the stupid
german phrase "mahlzeit". Everyone can explain the meaning but, for sure,
it
sounds quite mad and
crazy. If someone give a happy "mahlzeit" to me he'll get the answer "mal
Dir
Deine Zeit
selber"

i think its good to be proud of where you come from, no matter where
that its! im not form germany, only german heritage and i tell people
all the time how cool i am because of it! i even have a german flag on
my cell. i would love to learn the language and go some day! i dont
know nearly as much as i wish i did about the culture ant the people
and stuff. i also think they should stop using and learning engilsh, in
many countries, so much. it might lead, some time in the distant future,
to an extiction of a language and that would be sad. oh and as
far as the whole deal with that girl going shopping with her friend,
most of the german examples could be used in english as well. i still
find german confusing at times...

You might as well be 'proud' of having two legs and ten fingers.
You didn't choose it. You can't change it. What is there to be 'proud' of?

where you come from ,in part, defines who you are! every culture is
different, thereby making people different. shure we all have two legs
and ten fingers, but culturally we are very different and thoes
cultural differentces create individual differentces wich are something
to be proud of. if the entire world had the same culture.....boring!
plus its kinda cool to be able to say my great great grandfather was
this famous guy in history who did this cool thing! its your heritage,
be proud of who you are!
