Anonymus, I see that you indeed know a lot about what happened in Hungary after the WW II. We were given Stalin in Jalta similar to other Central Eastern European countries. Thus it was no wonder that communists, with Soviet tanks behind them, were able to seize the power and set up communist dictatorship in 1949. But, thank God, the red power was over 15 years ago, whereupon Hungary became democratic country.

I remembered the first time I heard about "Hungary"'s English name, I was so silly to think it was anything related to Hungry.

When growing up, "Huns" immediately comes to my mind when talking this country. I always wondered if both are related or not.

Then Hungary became the name in a history book to illustrate the super power of Mongolian. It said their army reached as far as Hungary and my classmates "wow!" on it.

Hello Sarah, thank you for your post. I think so, too, it’s a beautiful country. Smile [:)]

Hi Yau, indeed there’s a legend which says Huns and Hungarians are related. Althought their names are very similar in English and other languages (Hungarian, however, is "Magyar" in my language), there’s no real historical proof of relationship. Nevertheless, many people look upon Hungarians as Hun descendant or relation. My firstname is Attila which can be known as the name of the king of Huns. As I know this name is given only in Hungary and perhaps in Turkey but I’m not sure about it. So, I don’t have a clue what the true is.

The Hungarians are Madyars.

were 2 trials, fino-ugro, when this trial  split, the finns went to the west, and the ougor countinued to central eourope.

in those wandering years the ougors were split too tho trials such as vogul, ostyak and of course the madyars(spoken as madyars), meaning of "speaking people". the trials surrender to the Huns.

In the 6th century to the Madyar were  in  what called "The ten trials treaty" that was in the area of Don river with the leadership of the Huns an the Kuzarians(or cusers)who slavered other poeple.

The treaty called "alliance of the ten arrow", (ON-OGUR) and from this name came the name, HUNGARY
