Truths are hard to prove, rumors are easy to make.

Osee, what was the context? Back in the 70s, there was this fad to have a bar across your doorway and these boots that you could sort of clip to the bar to hang upside down. It was very odd. But I can't imagine that's what you mean!

Barbara, who answers in American English. My housekeeping skills attest to the truth of the second law of thermodynamics: Left to themselves, things get more and more random!

Hello Grammar,

This is from Friends:

Ross wants an apartment, which is being subletted by the so-called Ugly Naked Guy (UNG). Rech suggests him to find out what the UNG's hobbies are and use that to bond with him. Then Ross recalls that the UNG had trampoline. Pheeb tells Ross UNG broke that. Then Ross says the UNG had gravity boots, ...

BTW, regarding the red "that", do you think I should use "those" instead of "that" since it is supposed to refer to "hobbieS"? Thanks.

Osee

No, 'that' is correct as it refers to 'that knowledge/information' not the hobbies directly.

Like trampolening, hanging upside-down from a bar would be a pretty unappealing thing to see an UNG doing!

Enlightenment is always preceded by confusion.

LOL. Exactly. But, unlike trampolening, I can not see why hanging upside-down from a bar with gravity boots is such a fun that it became a fad in 70's.
