Hi, wanted to use "another one bites the dust" in order to say positivly that I've achieved something, for eg :-
"Ahh well, another one bites the dust"
does this sound positive?
Not really. Another one bites the dust means something has died or been defeated.
"That's another one off my list" or "That's another one down" might be a better choice.
I suppose it's positive if you're using it the context of competition. Saying 'another one bites the dust' would be a smug way saying you've beaten the latest opponent.
I agree, Tidus, but she asked how to use it when she wanted to say she had accomplished something, not beaten an opponent.
But if she had a huge amount of work to do, like writing a big pile of reports, it would be fine to say "Another one bites the dust" as she finishes up one of those reports.
Although, I agree it's normally used to talk about something that's been defeated or killed.

Hi GG,
How do you know that it is "she" who asked the question? or is it familiar in Eng. to use "she" referring to anonymous? I have never heard about it.
Though as 21st-century people, there should be no reason for us not to say 'she' when we are unsure of the gender of the anonymous poster...
