What does "go the way of " mean?

They will go the same way horses (was that "hourses"?) and buggies have gone: obsolete"

"will go the way of" - "will travel the same (historical) road as" - "will experience the same history as" - "will suffer the same consequences as" - "will pass through the same (historical) stages as"
