I found this word in a song by avril Lavigne. I think it made reference to clothes but I don't remember the exact words. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I don't know if Avril is one of those who misspell words for the cool factor, but in regard to clothing, chances are the word is preppy. This word was popular in the late seventies when I was in high school. Its connotation was snobbish and conformist. I wasn't preppy. Actually I was barely civilized.

i am not sure but; maybe in your response, you should use the present perfect (i have never seen), instead of using the past perfect(i had never seen),
if i am out, thanks in advance for correction.

Hammou,
...depends on when the speaker spoke!
"I had never seen this word [when I read it]"
"I have never seen this word [in my whole life]"
Both work, but I totally take your point!
Respectfully,

Yes, preppy originally came from preparatory school and the way that they dress. Now "preppy" can mean that you dress with semi formal clothes. It has become a byword
