Hi,

I am just wondering about the meaning of "What does the future hold? " and also what kinds of answers can you expect from such a question?

Thanks in advance.

What can we expect to happen in the future?

(Obviously we don't know but we can guess).

Yes; the phrase is often used as a rhetorical question: the speaker will say e.g. 'What does the future hold for English Forums?' and then answer the question himself.

You would expect an 'educated guess' for the answer.
