Is this saying anything to anyone...from a marketing standpoint?

"Performance is a standard."

Hi,
Welcome to the Forum.
Is this saying anything to anyone...from a marketing standpoint?

"Performance is a standard."

No, not really. Marketing statements like this often make no real sense.
Nevertheless, they often seem to be successful in making an impression on the audience (customers) they are directed to.

Best wishes, Clive

So you think it works? I'm the copywriter, and I did not write this. I don't like this. I've tried to explain why it makes no sense and I'm being told that I don't get it.

I said "high-performance" makes sense or something...but was then told that it was redundant

Hi,
What's the context?
eg  Are you selling cars?
eg  Motivating employees?

Hi,
I agree with you that it doesn't seem to make sense.

Maybe if it was 'Performance is standard'?

I believe their explanation is that in the industry, to "perform" alone, is a selling point. Essentially, the intent of all of the products is to weather-proof...so I see what they are thinking. "Our products perform" makes sense, barely, but not to sell (to me). When your competitors are people who produce products that weather-proof...(think of seals or weather-stripping on a door frame), it's hard to imagine anything not "performing" to some degree. You would not say, "Buy this car, it performs." or, "This weather seal performs," etc. To me, this is like saying, "Come to Applebee's for our new cheeseburger, it's edible!"

But I can't get my point across...

Thank you for saving my sanity.

I'd love to get Nona's take on this - we're in similar industries.

I completely agree with you and think this tagline makes NO sense. I like your example - would "edibility is a standard" makes sense for food? Maybe "Upright and ambulatory is a standard" would work for a job placement company?

If they tell you that you just "don't get it" then I wonder what they'll tell their customers, who are equally confused? Sounds like this idea was the brainchild of someone highly placed and no one has the guts to tell the emporer he's not wearing any clothes.

You are exactly right. This is the brainchild of the pres...I bet you're surprised.

Today we had another meeting and this what brought up. An outside ad guy had done some art and he had put "Make Performance Standard" which caused questions to rise because he didn't put "Make Performance A Standard"

So, we voted on it. The outside ad guy voted against the "A"...everyone else (yes people) voted for the "A"...and I said, it still doesn't make sense to me, but if I have to vote, I'm voting to leave the "A" out.

And my issue is that I'm very new to this industry, and I instantly had a problem with this tagline. So, if I have a huge problem with it...enough to find this website, login into it and post a message on a forum regarding it...How are customers going to react to it? If it stabs me, granted I'm a writer and an English guy, how deep is it going to stab the customer.

But you were exactly right in your assumption.
