yup, uber means awesome. Added as a prefix makes the word have more superior effect to it either negative or positive!

Ok Uber(for me) was first heard on the Game Ever Quest(EQ) which was about 6 years ago. When I first heard it NO ONE anywhere said it other than on EQ. It has since been adapted for all MMoRPG's(essentially any game). The word Uber is German and its definition in that language is almost moot, because its so different in English. Uber reffers(like someone else had said) to something of extreme value. Example:  A shovel is a shovel, a shovel that has a 12 Horse power motor on it and golden handles and can make chocolate shakes is an Uber Shovel. When playing online games when you start you are a Noob(Newbie, military term for new recruit) After reaching the highest lvl, and aquiring the best gear, you are still not uber. You must be unique in every way and stand out more than anyone else to be 'uber'. That SHOULD be how uber is used in the english langueage, some of the German definitions will suit the English use of the word, but in general the two words do have differnet meanings. Uber is more commonly used today to describe something that is cool, or great, that is a miss-use of the word for the English language it should only be used to describe like I said something that is very unique or the best of its kind. I dont care if you dont agree with me cause im right Smile [:)]

Side note: the average MMoRPG terms that are used today for EVERY MMO are about 60% derived from EQ this includes; Noob, PL(power Level), DS(Damage Shield),Tank(character who can take allot of damage),DPS(Damage Per Second),AoE(Area of Effect), Ninja Looting(to steal loot from a team of guild) And MANY MANY more thats just some examples from the top of my head. I know for a fact these all came from EQ because I am a big MMo fan/player and EQ was the benchmark for MMo terms plain and simple.(there are exceptions because I dont know everything but EQ was the biggest MMo to come out in a while and even if there terms didnt come from em first the made em popular)

Well, Guest was right, it is slang for awesome..

German for the word "above", but more commonly used on the internet for being the best, the top, the supreme, the highest of highest.

There's a gourmet burger joint in Singapore called Uberburger, check it out if you don't mind paying S$101 for a hamburger. =p

Barbara, who answers in American English. My housekeeping skills attest to the truth of the second law of thermodynamics: Left to themselves, things get more and more random!

If I'm not wrong, he must be from Australia. My aussie mates like to use 'uber' to mean 'over' or 'very' in their conversation,

Example: The cleanser i bought was uber runny.
