If a company fails an audit, aren't there legal penalties?
Isn't anyone even slightly upset that the E.U auditors have refused to approve the E.U. accounts for the last 8 years? There has to be something seriously wrong going on here.

How can important decisions affecting so many peoples lives be entrusted to a body that can't even account for its finances?

"Where is Mr Smith?"
"I'm sorry Sir, we have no entry for a Mr Smith"
"That's rather odd isn't it?"
"No, not at all Sir, these things happen all the time. Last week we lost an entire country! Gone without a trace!""

European Constitution for Idiots? Hmm...I'm not sure that I know what you mean..

This is what I mean, Delb:

Guest
I read that British citizens have not even been issued with copies of the contitution. How can they be expected to vote on something they know nothing about? Furthermore, something which effectively supercedes all existing British laws?

The only information we have received is party political stuff like the propaganda posted by another guest from a leaflet by CREC. This is the Campaign to Reject the European Constitution, and can hardly be called objective. It would be helpful to us if we were given a simple breakdown of the main points so that we can effectively engage in an informed debate.

Naturally, Delb, but I am not the only voter in the country. Many do not have access to internet. Every citizen should be provided with a precis of the constitution, if not the whole document

I've been interested in the fate of the new European Union constitution.

A lot of articles concerning the EU constituion and referenda in the member states often appeared in newspapers(....almost everyday......even in my country in East Asia!).
At first I thought the constitution would be narrowly ratified by voters in France and the Netherlands......because there were discussions about the constitution in a foul mood at some websites I visited, and I received the impression (from what I had read there) that probably 50% of voters would vote for 'yes.' So... when the new constituion was overwhelmingly rejected by French voters, I was a little surprised at the result.

Actually, I didn't know much about the constituion 'itself' until very recently.
After reading some articles about the new EU constitution, I was really shocked! Surprise [:O]
The constitution is really flawed(I think).......
Please search on google and read some info about it.
I'm sure many of you will be shocked like me......!

BTW, here's a quote from an article about the constitution, but there's one word that I can't understand its meaning at all. Huh? [:^)]
Could any of you please explain what it means for me?
What does 'bis' mean in the article?
(Many thanks in advance....!!)

6.2 Creating an EU Presidentand EU Prime Minster
Article 15 bis reads: "When the Convention has discussed it, this article
could establish the terms of office and appointment procedure for the
Presidency of the European Council, its role and responsibilities."

The Big States are pushing for a permanent European Council President,
instead of the present six-monthly EU presidencies that are shared equally
amongst all the member States.

Article 18 bis "would establish the role and appointment procedure for the
Presidency of the Commission." The Treaty of Nice confers on the Commission
President powers similar to those of a national Prime Minister, such as the
right to shuffle portfolios, require the resignation of national
Commissioners and have a significant role in their nomination. The relation
between the Council and Commission Presidents under the EU Constitution
could be similar to that between an executive national President and a
national Prime Minster, as in France and the USA. The President of the
European Council would have a major role in representing the EU
internationally and in foreign policy.

I don't need to read the European Constitution. If corporations, businessmen, political parties and civil servants tell me to vote Yes, I know where I need to put my cross.
