Hello people. I'm just trying to finish up an essay for class but having great difficulty with the syntax section. My essay involves me comparing and analysing two extracts from two different novels.

Syntax claims to be 'the grammatical arrangement of words in sentences'.

I suppose I haven't been listening in class, but I seriously have no idea what my essay should include.

 Any help much appreciated. Sorry for the lack of information as to what pieces I'm using, but my time is quite limites and I don't think it would make much difference as I assume syntax is a pretty universal concept.
