"And certainly he wasn't hurting for money. Yet he lived in such a modest house that no one would have ever suspected a fairly big star lived there."

He was seriously ill for quite a long time, and I seem to remember he was cared for by a woman he was close to - maybe he lived there because she did. I'm sure someone will know... as I obviously don't.

I love words.

"Oh, and Nudist Westerns."

Me too, so long as they star little people. A nude version of "Terror of Tinytown" would be great.

"Riffing off the "sadistic" thread... Just curious about what genre, topic or themes interest people around here. Yeah, lots of us can say: "Anything that doesn't suck.", etc. But are there specific ideas/stories that you're drawn to?  And if it hasn't been done, what would you LIKE to see explored? That's still pretty general...  Feel free to expand on the question."

I seem to be drawn to fantasy or SF, or something with a bit magic or moodiness in it. "Milagro Beanfield War" is one of my favorite movies, but so is "Brazil." I like some action movies they don't have to be completely believable, but most lately just seem to be noise. Unlike most here, I actually liked "The Island." I also like romantic comedies but, again, good ones seem to be few and far between. My favorite was "While You Were Sleeping," but I also liked "Only You." I don't know where "It's a Wonderful Life" fits in, but it's also one of my favorite movies.

(I'm sure this was all a big help.)

I'd like to see "On Wings of Eagles" made. It's the story of Ross Perot's balls-out rescue of two of his employees who were being held hostage in Tehran just before the revolution. There was a miniseries, but I'd like to see done it up in cinema style. Great story.

Yep, that's it. Follett swears every bit of it was the absolute truth.

I'm sure he does, and I have no reason to think it's not but wasn't he hired by Perot to write it? I have a feeling he was...

Movies with great soundtracks. Saturday Night Fever, Close Encounters, Godfather, Rocky, even Titanic. Great sounds and spectacular photography. But Im a plex junkie and alot of it has to do with how you see the movie (Screen > TV) We need new directors that see to the horizon and go for it. Its a shame Anthony Mengela died so young. No Country For Old Men had no music, which is basically avante garde and for the Coen Nerds it worked.
I think the Scorsese way is the lazy way. Its cool, no doubt. But it is Lazy and standing on the shoulders of chain smoking rock stars that weigh less than 110lbs is kinda weaksauce. But of course, I'll take all I can get, same for QT. What I dont need, is Deniro and Pacino doing Borscht Belt. Or Indy with a girl that looks like Harrison Fords girlfriends mom. I dont need Eagle Eye but will think about more Disturbia.
As for Saw and Hostel. Well whats next? Snuff is already on cable news. Not for me. I want fake. I couldnt take watching Willis McGahee get taking off the football field again in an Ambulance last sunday. I turned it off. Or any real injury for that matter. I cant watch skateboard out takes of boys slipping and smashing their balls on railings. Or sports injuries like twisted knees. But I do like it if its fake. Like Saw or Hostel or TCM.
I closing, Don't let the DP have the camera on sticks at 5' 10". Find somebody that can make great music, and edit it all together. Lose the credits. That would be GREEN, we all have IMDB now anyway and its way more user friendly than scroll. Save the film. Look it up. Be a nice way for Google or somebody to throw around money. Instead of credits. The movie ends. Fade to black for about 5 seconds, and then Pixar or whoever makes the Geico Gecco could have a character that came out and told everybody to go look the credits up and get a coupon or whatever...

Could be. He got paid somehow, I'm sure.
