Dear,
I don't know what does the following sentence: If it weren't for Jim, this would be in a mess. mean?
Does is mean: Something made this not in a mess because of Jim (If this is in a mess, something bad will happen to Jim)
Or it means: Jim made this out of mess?

Dear,
I'm trying to be better in English, so, whenever you see mistakes in my posts, please let me know.
Thank you very much!

To me, this means: "thanks to Jim, this isn't a mess".
