Ah another thing I forgot to say about french : they enjoy being controversial if not obnoxious...

Now I'll stay quiet for fear of getting my fingers slapped by NTB, who has kindly yet firmly asked me to behave...

Oh one last thing though : one could find it ironic that an english person is actually the only one in this forum standing up for France and the french. I take it french-bashing is no longer 'in' ? What's left when one can no longer count on their best enemy ???

Waiti, how about telling us where you come from?

Chère SavvySavz

The background information you shared about your hometown and way of life was interesting reading. I too graduated from a french high school from overseas (Morrocco). It seems the environment I grew up in is probably comparable to what you describe above.
What is the exact status of Pondicherry right now ? Is it just like any other indian town or is it maybe like a free-trade zone or any other specificities regarding the political system, like a local government and some autonomy on everything that relates to local public affairs ?

Salutations,
Waïti.

French people insist on not speaking English as far as I've witnessed. Even if you inform them that you're not acquainted with French, this time they develop a strong desire for teaching you something in French, at least counting 1 to 10 Smile [:)]
I've been to Paris, it was a neat city with perfect architecture. Apart from that, I reckon media makes French people ugly and their politics over some countries is unfair and crafty admittingly,  but the French people I got to know in person were cool and friendly, they never gave me a bad impression.

Ah but Waiti, we still love to 'attack' each other, but these days it is more tongue in cheek.  Just wait for the Battle of Trafalgar celebrations to start next month...lots of big events in the UK and a nice bit of gloating going on.

Nona, thank you so much for your kind words that had me relieved... Brings me comfort to see that the world hasn't changed that much after all... There are things you like to cling to as forever granted... French-english hereditable hostility would be one of them... Cheers !
(And a favour to ask you : could you elaborate a little bit on this 'tongue in cheek' expression that you are using since it is new to me...)
