Ah yes David, that's another thing I forgot to mention and thanks for reminding me : way too many english people in the french countryside nowadays. Even in the smallest village on the sunday morning market you hear people speak english. The real estate prices have rocketed over the past few years in part because of them ; and they now litteraly own the Chamonix valley for instance.
See, I'm not biased towards french only... I have plenty of slanderous bad faith slime left for the english as well... Snail [sn]

Maybe they come across as arrogant because of the difference in culture...I don't know, but I think that people should at least give them the benefit of the doubt. I have sensed this arrogance that people talk about as well... but I've sensed it also with people from parts of Eastern Europe...but I was told that it was just a difference in culture...

Besides, Waiti, you seem pretty arrogant yourself you know Stick out tongue [:P]

Dear Anon.

You have to understand I'm only doing my best Angel [A] trying to live up to the agreed upon stereotypes about them french... And arrogance seems to be a recurring pattern in what we keep hearing about french, doesn't it ?

Now having said that I fully agree with you that arrogance comes from cultural misunderstanding that stems from narrow-mindedness (but does such a word exist ?). And it appears that since so many people come to France mostly to visit sometimes to settle permanently, then french people get this crazy notion that it must be because they live in the most beautiful country in the world.
Which may be true but -in large part- only because they have been blessed by mother nature with a territory that happens to have a lot of 'winning cards' up its sleeve : a perfect location right in the center of europe, a nice combination of sceneries with both seas and mountains, a mild climate that makes it easy to live there... So what I mean is that there is nothing to brag about here turning all these natural competitive advantages into a place nice living and worth visiting. I understand I'm talking about nature mostly here but it is my opinion that France wouldn't have developped such an 'art de vivre', had it been gifted with a rougher climate for instance.

Now I'm not sure this whole speech will make me sound any less arrogant but again that was not the point ; since I'm already the Black Sheep [bah] of this thread...

Waïti.

Hi Waïti,

U know, somtimes it is quite boring to read someone who is always blaming something and complaining about ones cultures. Maybe u're the Black Sheep [bah] as u consider u're self, but u want it as u want to annoy us with your...consideration... OK, as all french u're arrogant, and think u're the best in the World, and of course if France missed the world cup in Soccer, it is OF COURSE because of the weather, never blame french, they got crazy!!! Storm [st]

Are u satisfy, little brebie???

I think you got me wrong Sharann... I may be the black sheep here but I never blamed it on the weather as the scapegoat... As for the last soccer world cup, if you want to go there, let me tell you what I think : France *** up only because they had a bunch of *** lined up on the field ; and France just had what they deserved. Là c'est dit, ça va mieux comme ça ?

It is annoying to see my thread getting shredded into pieces by people with immature attitudes.Waiti, I do not want you typing words like *** up, wankers etc... in here.

Do I make myself clear?

Savvy

I'm sorry Savvy but I don't see what's wrong with 'fouled up' Angel [A]. Same for 'shirker' Angel [A]. My dictionary says they are both 'colloquialisms' but doesn't mention they'd be considered 'slang'.
Waïti.
