 I do not watch Dr. Phil ,so I did not know his accent was sort of Southern. And I guessed at Nebraska for General American because I do not usually hear it. I  mostly watch British shows. :)

I speak American English. Well, actually, a version of Philadelphia area English.

 Nebraska is just one of many states in the central part of the U.S. where the accent is pretty much General American.
