Using the word 'legend' to describe professor Yang Z.N maybe  is not luxurious. Because he won Nobel prize. Even though with the American nationality, he  also got enough respect and praise in China. Yet some extreme comments existed, such as Yang did little contribution to China when motherland was in dilemma.
Different opinions took a new fight again when  Yang  got married with his student who was fifty four years smaller than him.  Lots of forums were cramed with positive and negetive posts toward him.
It was a really stunning news. A 82 years old scholar got a 28 wife. A little envious too.
Maybe it was our traditional minds drived us so serious about their marriage. What if Yang was a 82 years old rich merchant or a famous director in Hollywood?
Just the scholar status, rigorous and upright image and his great reputation contradicted his 'romantic' marriage.
It was human nature that any man wished to get a beautiful young lady. Yet someone just took dreams. And someone took actions.
What is your attitude ?

Regardless of his stature I feel like 28 is plenty old enough to be able to choose to marry anybody you like, no matter how old.

If they are fine with it, nobody else's opinion matters. If she was 17 it would be different for me.

I do like your point about comparing him to a merchant or celebrity.
