You would well do to buy Swan, Practical English Usage, for such issues. Very important reference book.

Lisi58,

What = is used in something unknown. i.e. what is his name? / what is in the bag?

Which =is  used in making a selection among things you already know. i.e. Of the five addresses I've tried on, which one do you like the best?

Is this helpful to you?
