When do you know which of the above to use?

e.g. 'Which book are you reading?' / 'What book are you reading?'

Thanks in advance

Which - You get to choose A or B, or more choices.

Book A? Book B? Book C? or?

Which book are you reading? (Which series of Harry Potter book are you reading?)

Harry Potter series 1? 2? 3?

What - You have no idea what book the person is reading.

Hope that helps

I think that the explanation supplied by Anonymous from Singapore applies here as well.
