HI buddies

I've got an email from my friend informing that he was sick

What to say him? Is the following reply correct?

"I'm so upset that you were sick" or "wish you to become healthy"

Please help. thanks in advance

If he was sick before but is now well:  'I'm sorry to hear that you were sick'.

If he is sick now:  ' I'm sorry to hear that you are sick.  I hope you get well soon.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'
