' clothes ' refers to what you wear on your body.

' clothing ' refers to the entire outfit on you.

So in the hospital, nurses would say ' remove your clothing ' for a thorough medical checkup if it involves your lower sensitive partSmile [:)]


How about ' I got a mix-up on these two words ' ? Well, this sentence needs a confirmation from a native speaker :P.
