The ' in Germany ' for the first sentence is an adverb phrase modifying ' developed '.
The ' ...... in Germany ' is a noun phrase.

Even though the first is most commonly used. The second doesn't seem wrong either. So both are OK I guess

1) is passive voice.
2) is active voice. (Also, "in Germany" could be placed better)
If "it" is the most important thing, use 1.
If Knoll and Ruska are more important than "it", use 2.

It is the "electron microscope" which is my assignment topic , so i should use the first one?

I second that ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif) it refers to the ' electron microscope ' then the first is more appropriate.
