You can use passive voice (
is/was/been +
-ed form) for most verbs that have an object.
I went to the haberdasher shop, but all the gloves had been sold.
They were bought by a group of octopi.
The octopi were caught by the zoo staff, and the gloves have been returned to the haberdasher.
