I am soooo glad that someone else has noticed that some people think that "w" is a vowel.  I am originally from Pennsylvania (went to school there, including college) and I moved to North Carolina 20 years ago.  My coworkers in NC told me that "w" was a vowel.  I laughed hysterically!  I thought they were kidding or playing a joke on me until my son came home from school and said that his elementary teacher taught him that "w" was a vowel.  I asked my coworkers why no one ever buys a "w" on The Wheel of Fortune. I haven't received an answer.  Smile [:)]

Yoong Liat,

A young nurse was once helping an older gentleman take a little walk around the hospital grounds.
A bird flew over them and left its little 'calling card' on the old man's coat.
Distressed, the nurse said, "We'll have to go back in and get a tissue to take care of that."
"Oh, don't bother," said the man.  "That bird'll be miles away by the time we get back."

"W" is sometimes used as a vowel, as in "cwm" - pronounced "koom" - which is a Welsh word adapted/inherited by the English language.

The letter 'w' is not a vowel in English language. Only a, e, i, o, u are vowels.

Then please tell what the vowel is in "why", "cry", "try" or "by"!!!

Y is often considered a vowel (its sound in those words is a vowel sound).

English would be so much simpler if we stopped stealing other people's words.
