In Japan, we say ITADAKIMASU. The meaning may be "I'm having the meal with thanks."

I wonder what you say or do at such a time. If possible, I'd like to know what YOU do or say, not what is the most appropriate way. Also I'd like to know if that at home and that at business lunch are different or the same.

Thank you.

In the UK we don't say anything. If someone has gone to a lot of trouble to cook for you, it is polite to make an appreciative comment along the lines of 'mmm, this looks delicious' or 'mmm, this smells wonderful'.

A few very religious people may say grace - a short prayer of thanks to god for the food, but this is very uncommon.

In the United States, as is in the UK,there isn't a designated phrase or sentence that you say before you eat.  However, it would be nice to comment on the food.

" What a wonderful spread."

"It looks delicious."

Thank you very much, everybody, for the good examples.
