Are these correct? If not, why?
1. Do you know which aisle where your locks are?
2. Do you know which aisle your locks are? (If this is correct, why? Is it because 'where' is omitted?)

Thanks.

Hello jack,

Do you mean 'lockers'?

No - you don't use 'which' and 'where' together like this.

You can say "do you know where your lockers are?"

Or "do you know which aisle your lockers are in" (if you wanted to be extremely correct, you would say "do you know in which aisle your lockers are, but generally people use the first one)

To abbie1948

You remind me of a quote attributed to a well known WWII ENGLISH politician and statesman which goes like this:-

"This is the kind of English UP WITH WHICH I will not PUT!!"

temico - I just wrote that exact phrase (W.Churchill, I believe) in a letter to a local councillor!

(well, it was "behaviour up with which I will not put" but the same construct!)Devil [6]

I meant 'locks' as in:
I'm at a depot store and I want to buy a lock for my bicycle.

1. Do you know in which aisle (where) your lockers are?
So 'where' is not needed here? It is incorrect? How come it sounds okay?

Thanks.

It doesn't sound OK, Jack. And it is incorrect in that sentence. Use one of Abbie's three choices.
