Which is correct grammar?

1. my friend and I.
2. my friend and me.

I could swear it's #1. my roommate said sometimes #2 is correct, depending on the sentence.
Please settle this argument. thanks.

Number one is always correct.
Number two is acceptable in informal writtings and conversations.

This issue has been discussed more than once here, not long ago.
