Answer :

(1) He was so late for the lecture.

(2) He was very late for the lecture.

Which one is correct?

Hi,

You hear both, but #2 is correct. With #1, you need a consequence/result, eg  He was so late for the lecture that he missed the first half of it.

He was too late for the lecture. (Remove too)

Answer : He was late for the lecture. <<< Why don't you consider answering this way? I removed 'too', as instructed.
