(a) He walked the street listening to music.

(b) He walked along the street listening to music.

Are both sentences correct? If so, which one is more commonly used and what's the difference?

Thanks in advance!

I think (B) is correct.Because when "walk" is a verb, it is used with preposition to link with the noun.

Yingzhou210, both sentences are correct. To use one or the other is a matter of individual preference. However, if you want to be very particular about it, you'll have to write, "He walked along the street while listening to music."

Here's another similar example "The hawker walked the street selling his ware."

Hello Anonymous

The expression most preferred by native speakers is "walk down the street". We discussed this kind of subject half a year ago. If you are interested, please visit 65310 (click here).

In Japan today even dogs are learning how to bow-wow in English.
