I want to write a cover letter to a firm.

I want to tell  firstly that i have no reference. So i am not writing with any reference.

So how could i tell that i have no reference?

a I am writing out of any references.

b I am writing without any references.

c I am not writing in any references.

Hi,

B is correct grammar, as Doll notes. However, if this is part of your actual letter, do you really need to say this at all? You could just start directly to explain why you are writing and what you want. eg I would like to apply for  .. . .

Best wishes, Clive

Actually, no, you don't want to do that!  Smile [:)]  This may be cultural thing, but that is not a good way to start a letter!!!  Don't do it!!!  Smile [:)]

By the way, it's not clear (to me, at least) whether you are trying to say that you have no references -- no names of other people who will support you in your claims to being the best candidate for some job, or whether you are trying to say that you are writing for yourself alone -- not on behalf of anyone else or on the advice of anyone else.
