Many years ago, these credits usually appeared at the beginning of the film and didn't include nearly so many names.  Now, the list is long enough that one could eat an entire bag of popcorn just watching them.  I have a feeling that union negotiations resulted in so many people being recognized.  It's almost as if someone drives past the set during filming the name gets listed.  Still, they can be enjoyable.  I always sit through them.
