What is the differences between a whisker and a beard?

A whisker is a single hair.  'Whiskers' is a slightly old-fashioned name for moustache + beard (and a full beard includes the moustache), but can also be used for any facial hair in an unshaven condition (even if overnight).

Also -- cats have whiskers.  So do seals.  Goats have beards.
