Everything about WhiteSmoke points to the fact that it is a scam - particularly the fact they market it as downloadable software, whereas it needs an Internet connection to work, and the fact that they make it as difficult as possible to ge a refund, and will not disclose their street address.
Those are only two of the many problems with this company and its software.
The solution is to comment on as many blgs on forums as possible, and send comments to the reviews departments of all the leading software magazines. Theier sales a re based mainly on INternet, so a high number of bad reviews will damage their trad intensley if they do not alter their attidute rapidly and offer a reasonable product and an honest service.
failing this, everyone should get together and file a class action suit.
BTW the poster who mentinoed Systran. Systran is translating software that has been around since 1968, as far as I know it does not offer writing and grammar help for single languages.
