Women give sex for emotion... Men give emotion for sex...

I would say that women are better in tune with their feelings - they know what they are feeling, and very often can detect why they are feeling it, and they manage to deal with it by themselves. When they can't, they know where to get help.

Men, on the other hand, are much more emotionally volatile in general. When they break down, it's simply awful - they have no clue as to what to do to help themselves get better, other than avoiding the issue. As far as my(admittedly limited) experience goes, they try to repress issues until they get the better of them.

So, I guess, how emotional a person is doesn't depend upon gender, but men and women have different ways of dealing with it.

What say, folks?

Hello all.

Actually, scientifically, it is proven that on average, men feel the emotion six times stronger than women do, but if you compare it to our environmental surroundings, you can see why.

Men have always been expected to be the 'Cowboy' the 'Rock'. They are the ones that bring home the bacon, keep away intruders, and do the rough 'n' roudy work. Whereas women have always been delicate, quilting bees, having children... there was actually a quote from somewhere...

'Men's war is out on the front lines, womens is in the birthing bed... actually, it's in any bed period.'

We are seen as the delicate sex due to our men having the unbearable need to provide and care and protect for his family. If he cannot do that, then he is ruined and ashamed. It always comes down to pride.

It is mentioned in several areas that the male is always the head of the household, even in the Bible! And animals do the exact same thing, alpha male and female.

It's not that men are insensitive, it's just that they are raised to be tougher. When you see a young boy cryin gto his father, the dad says 'Suck it up! take it like a man!' If a girl were to do that they'd be coddled, given a kiss where it hurts, and then tickled (or something). It has to do with the environment and the psychological shaping of the child when he/she is young.

Good point, Kriss.

I remember reading an article that said that upon hearing a baby crying, men registered a far greater increase in heartbeat and blood pressure. But it was the women who started making noises and actually acting on their emotions. But the "six times" figure is new to me. Thanks!

Yeah? I've never heard of the heart beat increasing thing. Why is that, exactly?

Is it because they don't know how to respond to the baby's emotional distress (or something. i'm just trying to sound smart right there. Too tired to actually care though)

The increase in heart beat is probably due to agitation and distress - a stress-hormone effect. Unfortunately, I have a very scrappy memory, and this article was something I read years ago.

Cheers,

So does that mean women are more emotional? Or men? I really think we haven't decided.

speaking from the scientific or physiological perspective, women go through a hormonal imbalance each month, and that's how i see the word "emotional" used in this case.

I live with my husband and my son.  They think that I am crazy because I cry at the drop of a hat.  And don't tell me I'm hormonal!  I've had a hysterectomy over 10 years ago.  I am very emotional!
