If you know a student who should be considered for this award, click here for a nomination form.

Should this be a whom or who? Is student the DO?

Should there be a comma before or is the subordinate clause considered essential?

Thanks!

Could you clarify why I use 'who' when the DO is 'student'?

My reasoning is that since 'student' is the object,  you would use the pronoun 'whom' to refer to  him/her.

What am I missing here?

You are missing the rule that governs these cases!

The function of the antecedent in the main clause is irrelevant.

Choose the case of the relative pronoun (who / whom) on the basis of its function in the subordinate (i.e., relative) clause.

He (who) should be considered for this award.

Not,

*Him (whom) should be considered for this award.
