1. John: ___ is your sister? Mary: The girl in front of our teacher.

2. _____ is your brother, the tall boy or the short boy?

Which word should I use to fill in the above blanks, who or which?

Generally, 'who' is used to refer to people.  However, when asking about a choice, 'which' is used.

Or when talking about an object.
Example:
The girl, who smells like chocolate pudding, is rather fat, due to large intakes of chocolate pudding.
The chair, which is rather stylish and made of wood, made me trip and fall onto the driveway on the way to my car.
And for animals, you can use either who or which, although I like to use "who."
