Which is correct for this sentence, "whoever" or "whomever", and why?

He's here to do his job, whoever/whomever he may be.

Many thanks.

I've never heard the word "whomever" before. So I guess it's right to say "whoever" (this is just my opion).
I always thought that "whom" has become out-of-date. Am I right?

'Whoever'.  The pronoun takes the same case as the subject ('he') because the verb is the copula ('be').

PS: 'Whom' is not quite out of date yet; people are just forgetting to say it sometimes.
