"In the complicated world we live in, getting back to basics can be very refreshing. Sometimes you don't need the whole banana split with cherries on top. Sometimes a simple chocolate cone will do. Today, we have some info for you on getting back to the basics of Squidoo."

What does "Sometimes you don't need the whole banana split with cherries on top. Sometimes a simple chocolate cone will do." mean?

Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

I am not very sure but I think it means that sometimes you have to be satisfied with little things..

Ooh I see. Though, that leads me to think.. will this understanding way fits better? ->

Like, you don't have to have very fancy and lotsa of complicated stuff, a few small basic things will reach the same affect. (I comprehend that way because that is from a website related thing ><Wink [;)]

Because, from what you said "you have to be satisfied with little things" makes me feel like you HAVE to, kinda sound like forced. Though that is just the way I am thinking, I might be a little oversensitive or wrong.

Thanks for the help Big Smile [:D]!

Again, I am not sure but let's have another example.

It's not a good thing to get used to get the best things always, is it? So, it's good to be satisfied with little things sometimes.

Imagine a little children, if you give him/her toys everyday, the children will think that it's a normal thing to receive toys everyday and will get used to it. With the time, that little children will want more..however, instead of giving a toy, you give him/her a sweet, the children will be the happiest person in the world and if in special occasions you give him/her a toy, the children will be more than the happiest person in the world.

A banana split is an enormous desert compared to the chocolate cone, which is supposed to be "a little thing".

Pff, you had better wait for someone who really can help you! Smile [:)] Sorry..

The sense of the original, though, is not so much that you have to make do with a little instead of a lot, but rather that sometimes you prefer to have the simpler and less fancy option.
