Who's the greatest rapper of all times

Nas has incredibly poetic lyrics. Eminem has smart, complex lyrics. Biggie had an amazing delivery style. Pac touched people like no one else. But nobody, nobody flows like Jay-z. His style is extremely complex, changes direction several times in one verse, and yet comes out perfectly. With just about every other living rapper out there, you can basically anticipate the rhyme scheme. Yes, Nas and Eminem are incredible lyricists, but their rhyme delivery is still generally the structured A-B, A-B pattern with some variations that make each artist unique. But with Jay-Z: no matter the producer, the beat, the type of song, the speed, Jay-Z always flows PERFECTLY over the beat. The timing, the emotion, the breath control, everything comes together perfectly. Think about it: listen to your average Nas song and, while he is incredible, you can envision another rapper making a song on the beat. It may not be as good, but one could do it quite easily. But once Jay-Z puts his stamp on a track, he makes it his. He completely and utterly OWNS the beat. It's hard to even picture how someone else would flow over it. Also, the beats that he rhymes so well over are often atypical and very complex. Listen to Heart of the City, Politics as Usual, Money, Cash Hoes (yeah, I know it's real commercial), Lucifer, etc. How many rappers you know could rap over songs like that so well? But enough about my personal opinion. For the haters out there, let's look at the opinions of respected sources:

Source Magazine - usually I don't like it, but it is an established source. One thing they said in a Jay-Z album review has always stuck with me: that he has an almost "taoist flow" over any song he raps to. That pretty much says it all

Biggie - said that the only rapper he would fear going up against is Jay-Z

Jadakiss - has a great flow and beefed with Jay-Z. He finally admitted, "you just can't go to war with a n*gga like that"

Eminem - folks, do NOT get it twisted. Em said it himself: contrary to what haters say, he did not destroy Jay-Z on the renegade track. Em also said that that Jay's flow scheme on that song is ultra complex and ridiculous. People, really LISTEN to the timing, delivery, flow etc. next time you play Renegade, especially Jay's second verse. The change-ups are brutal and devastating.

Finally, many MCs can rap but don't know the art of making good songs and hits, no matter who they have producing the beats. Point blank, no other rapper consistently makes hit songs like Jigga. None. Factoring in all of the qualities which make an MC "great", Jay is the greatest rapper alive. Period.

I disagree,

U want ill, real deep lyrics u gotta go for immortal technique. Raps bout n e thing that means sumthin, unlike jay-z's money hoes attitude. 1 album u gotta check out is Revolutionary Vol. 1 for straight up ill lyrics.

download these songs and meet jay-z's worst nightmare. These niggas both is betta than jay

7 Minute freestyle- Big L and Jay-Z (here u can see jay get out rapped by the big l!)

Put it On - Big L (straight out ill flow and lyricism)

Dance with the Devil - Immortal Technique (the deepest song and meaning and deepst lyrics u will ever hear)

You Never Know - Immortal Technique (one of the saddest songs u will hear along with ill ass lyrics)

listen to that shit and ull never even think about jay-z as greatest again.......

Hey Dawg I got alot of love for you throwin out these cali names, especially Bay Area names. Me being from Oakland, hold it down! But Tupac is the best period. Rakim is the only other rapper lyrically who can challenge Pac. Nas is better then Twista, better then Mac Dre, RIP Mac, 36 Mafia, any of them dudes. I am not a Nas fan, but Ether is sick homie. Com'on man I got love for you throwin out these underground legends, but com'on man. Nas and Biggie were dope. Biggie didn't write down none of his shit man. Keep your ear to the streets, keep givin props to the underground and cats like Daz, Livio, Messy Marv, Andre Niccatina, Kurupt all dem cats got much love fo dem. But they ain't Pac, they ain't Rakim.

I may only be 13. And i may have only heard the newer rap. But i think the greatest rapper of all time would have to be Eminem. Now i Know a lot of you think 2pac is the greatest, and you may be right. But consider this. Ever since Eminem has come on the seen he has pretty much schooled all of the other rappers. I'm sure some of you are saying this kid is only thirteen what dose he know. well i know 2pac should be considerd one of the greatest rappers of all time. but i also know that almost if not all of 2pacs songs have swear words and are pretty much just nasty all the way through. But Eminem can get through an entire song without having to be nasty. plus eminems from the streets just like 2pac,so you cant say he was a rich white boy. so for pure rap ability eminems the best.

You guys are retarded. Jam Master Jay, Eazy-E, B.I.G., etc., couldn't sell records like pac did after they died. Neither will any of these other cats out there like Jay-Z, NAS, Eminem, etc. Till this day, I still hear people bump 2Pac all the time. 2Pac is the greatest rapper ever! No one will be able to follow in his footsteps. Like elvis, no one will reach his level in the rap game. If elvis is the king of rock, & MJ is the king of pop, then 2Pac is undoubtedly the king of rap hands down. NO COMPETITION!

glass up to krayzie and the whole bone family. I've seen so many of my freinds turn down his music cuz he's not popular enough, those people need to fucking get with it u can't go with what u seen on hip-hop countdown MTV and some BET (rap cit's all good) does'nt give us a good grasp of what the truly good MC's are, most don't have any talent but are on there cuz someone famous signed them. Look at bone they've been around since the early 90's and don't have near enough respect as they should! Bone should be like the most popular bands ever i mean if u listen to them and u are a tru hip-hop fan how in the hell could u turn them down?
Krayzie's album has awsome songs on it and it comes with a bonous DVD i want everyone to at least listen to some of their stuff cuz i GARUNTEE you will like it. bone is the best most darlingest, sweetest, loveliest, cutest, daintiest, most charming, sugarpie-honeybunch, rap group EVER no question!!

Without a doubt 2 Pac followed by the only one that could ever surpass him and that is Eminem. They both rap about what is in their heart not about the money they make or what hoes they were with. If they are mad they write a song that is vulgar if they are sad they write a slow rap and for all you who think that nelly and Ja rule are good rappers well you should listen to the words and really realize what they are really rapping about.
