Why is that?

Hi,

Why does what seems to be a proper noun, God, have the article 'the' in front of it? Normally, I think, you would see 'God' without a definite or indefinite article. Does it have anything to do with it having an adjective like 'faithful' before (the only) God?

The faithful God sent His only Son Christ to fulfill his covenant in the last time.

Can it work for these?

The great Golden Gate Bridge

The great John Doe Stadium

"Why does what seems to be a proper noun, God, have the article 'the' in front of it?"

because of the modifier that precedes the proper noun.

"Can it work for these?" yes
