What do you call "dirty businesses", Passionate_freak? Huh? [:^)]

Although I am not a religious person I don't think the world would be a better place if there were no religions, don't want to imagine how many things would change.

Hello Passionate_freak,

It's great that you opened this thread. It's been on my mind for a looooong time. First of all, the world would definitely be a better place without religion. Why? Because many conflicts (war etc.) going on are due to religion. (Not only because of religion I know, but it's a big part of it. Actually, there are conflicts where there are differences. but that's another thing and I have a headache so I cannot philosophize right now..) I thought about why people believe in religion too, and I reached to this conclusion: because they feel better! Yes, they are relieved that in hard situations they are gonna pray as if miracles would happen. When something bad happens, oh there is someone who did that to us! No, people, everything is up to you in a world that has a natural order. Is it that difficult to accept there is NO religion, and everything is a natural process? World is just about this.. When you die? Who knows? Would you be disappointed to see there is absolutely nothing after you die? Would you think like "all we did we did for nothing, all the fightings, wars was for nothing, why did we spend our precious time on this religious stuff, even it didn't bring any good"? For the people who are gonna say "but, being religious makes you a better person, you help people blah blah", I want to say that I'm a good person and I help people too and so on. And I know people who are like that. What was my point of saying those? Religion is useless, and it is riddiculous! I'm sorry to be that harsh, I didn't want to hurt any religious person's feelings, but that is what I think.

The message to the world: Stop running after religions.

I think that the world would be always the same with or without religions, in fact it's not a religion but people's interpretation of it to be wrong. If there weren't any religion, there would be something else for sure, in the name of which people would do the 'dirty business', as Passionate_freak said.
Just for the record: I'm not religious and happy to not to be.

I quite agree wuth Francesca. I am a happy person because I don't follow any religion, because I don't have to make myself believe wonderful fairy-tales about how people stubborn in their faith were going around the desert for forty years instead of making world around them a better place to live.
I am a happy person, because I can eat whatever I want and not torture myself with hunger.
I am happy to be free to go to the forest or live in a tent among the nature, drinking pure water, fishing and climbing the hills instead of spending several hours in a church kneeling and praying for forgiving me for the things I haven't dione.

I am not against the religion itself. Let people believe what they want. But the very thing I hate is the fact that the religious people begin to regard the people who don't believe in God as theeir enemies. They begin to hate, they are trying to impose their beliefs on other people. And it is unfortunately true about most of the religions. Be it Christians and Muslims.

The very thing that I don't like about religion is that these people think that they believe in God and their God is the best, the only, the... and it may be the reason of conflicts and war. And History is full of such examples... The bloodiest wars in history are the religiuos wars when the whole nations were killed and tortured.

That's why I think that the world could be better without religion but with a good Code of Law.

Hi Dew,

First, let me say I'm Christian. I'm a happy person and I am Christian.

I don't need to "believe wonderful fairy tales", because I know that the Bible carries a message, and should not be taken literally and out of the context it was written long ago. I believe it transmits God's message, of course, but I also believe that if the same message was to be given now, it would take a different form. I don't need to believe that the Creation happened exactly as it is described in the Bible, because I know that this is kind of an allegory, written for people who couldn't understand much more than that.
I don't need to "torture myself with hunger" and I can drink and eat whatever I want and like. This doesn't mean that I can forget about people who are not as lucky as I am because they don't have enough to eat.
I don't need to beg forgiveness for things I haven't done; praying means talking with somebody you believe loves you and loves all the world.
I don't regard anybody as an enemy, irrespective of whether s/he is atheist or follows another religion. I never try to impose my beliefs, and am also quite shy in talking about religious matters (this is the reason why this post is anonymous,  by the way, even though I'm a member in this forum Smile [:)] ).
I don't think God is a reason to declare war. I believe that God wants peace and that wars in His name must be a great pain to Him. Never in the Gospel did Jesus ask for war and hate.

So, to sum things up, let me say that I don't think my faith makes the world a worse place to live in.

Respectfully.

Anonymous, I fully agree with you.

Dew, what would you think about a person who tells that the world without atheists would be better. Wouldn't you think that such thinking is a kind of discrimination and poses a threat to you and your freedom. How do you want to give peace to the world by spreading hate for the people who thinks in a different way to you?
I accept and respect atheists. There will be no piece on the earth if we don't accept each other.

PS. Dew, your picture of religion is completely distorted. I don't know who told you such absolute rubbish about religion.

Hi all,

I completely agree with what Anonymous said. I'm a religious and I'm a happy for that Smile [:)] because I believe that it is a way of  life. Well , I respect all people whether they religins follower or not because everyone is free in choosing her/his life path.

We people always don't think about the source of the problem to have a greater impact and we just jump to the conclusion that says all religions are reasons for wars. If we just think deeply, we will find that all religions encourage us to spread peace and love among us and discard hatred and grudge. The main problem is people themselves and their thoughts that cause conflicts and wars.

Peace & blessings,
