What is the purpose of saying the following sentence?

"We are man and wife, if ever two people were on this earth!"

If you need context, then go to this link and check out the last sentence.

If ever there were two people on this earth who were man and wife, those two people would be you and me.

1: What does ''... in bride to be's shoes...'' mean? If it were ''If I were in bride's shoes...'' then I don't have any problem.

2: Doll wrote ''I wouldn't let him deceive me''. In that movie he wasn't trying to deceive her.

Bride to be: she's getting married (the date has been arranged), but she's still not married.

For example, if a woman gets married next Sunday (or next month or whatever), today she's "bride to be".
