I can't stand VISTA. Three of our lastest computers had it preinstalled and now I'll have to remove it and go back to XP because of SO MANY problems. The problem is though that if you buy any new computers (as in the prepackaged kit), they all come with it. I'm just a normal user not a techie which is what most users are.
I've been cursing Microsoft a lot more since VISTA came out whereas before it, I didn't give a Sh¡t about all the anti-microsoft hype. I found it more amusing than anything else. Now I'm on the bandwagon too.

I haven't had any problems thus far, I like how all the 'problems' in this thread (with Vista) have been unspecified.

You're rather angry for someone whom doesn't even use the system.Regardless, I think I'll stay away from your shabby sources. Also: never use keywords to prove a point, such a silly thing to do. Just Google "vista great", and it gets you more results than "Vista mistake".

Yo Bartie! I guess you work for Microsucks, yeah? Vista IS a pile of ***! Anyone who isn't a Microsucks lackie knows it!

Go *** Bill's *** ... ***!!!

"Vista is hardly bloatware"  I *** myself when I read this!!! It is the slowext and most bloated piece of junk one could ever be stupid enough to get fooled into installing! None of the techies I know go anywhere near Vista! They all avoid it like it was the plague!

Just what parallel universe do you come from, Bartie? Even Microsoft themselves admit that Vista was a bad mistake!!! Just Google "Vista mistake"!

And the icing on the crappy Vista cake; http://www.theinquirer.net/en/inquirer/news/2007/04/21/microsoft-admits-vista-failure

'k well if you can't list any reasons, they must be of personal taste. That whole post was nothing but an opinion, I see no fact supporting your words.

Bartholomew,

I've been a programmer since I was 6 years old, and I'm 32 now. My current computer is a vicious beast of a machine - I installed Vista..

2 Months later, for many reasons (that I just can't be bothered to go into anymore) I had to remove it and revert back to XP.

I only miss the upgrade to the Address bar, and a couple of minor bits and pieces here and there.

If you think Vista is a good operating system, then you've lowered your standards way too far.

--

Try Mac OS X, even though I'm stuck to M$ until I can migrate all my code away from .NET (which I do love though) - OS X is just simply FAR superior. If you don't think so, there's a good chance you've probably not worked with it for more than 10 mins.

Really, this is done in my mind now.. There is no comparison, Vista is a disaster we waited for way too longhorn. ;)

'... can't list any reasons

Have you forgotten the mention of DRM and BLOAT? Do you really need them to be in list form to understand them?  Well, just for the list oriented amongst us, here we go'

1 DRM

2 BLOAT

No, it is not an impressive list, but some of us don't need to be impressed in order to think logically. Vista is FUNDAMENTALLY flawed by way of the two aforementioned aberations.

It is a piece of crap and even Microsoft seems to realise it is so.  The only reason I can imagine some folks might defend it it is that they are in denial of their error in installing it.

Yep, I admit it.. I installed it too. But I was in the fortunate position to have been able to format the drive and instal a workable OS the same afternoon. I feel sincerely sorry for the folks out there that don't know how, or can't, format their drives and replace Vista.

Vista really is crap! But there is hope. There are MANY operating systems that can run from a CD - requiring NO INSTALLATION at all. Just slip the CD in and off you go. To use these all one needs is to know how to burn an ISO image. Easy!

Anyway, I'm off to try OSX (Hitch's recommendation). All my machines run dual boot Windows XP/ Mepis-Linux, but I am always happy to investigate what someone else recommends.

I have used A LOT of OS's in my time.  Vista is almost as crappy as Windows ME (upon which I believe it is based)!

The only thing slower than Vista (outside the 80's) is keying the code in yourself! Vista is a joke - but nobody is laughing... not even Microsoft!

1: DRM, doesn't affect people who own free music, or people who own music bought from DRM-free vendors. In fact, I've never come across any issues with DRM and Vista. Just by the way, same crap with XP SP3.

2: Bloat: It's bad for an OS to just let RAM idle. Vista takes charge of your RAM, using it to speed up your computer.

Man... I got to give you an award. A bullshit award.

You said " It's bad for an OS to just let RAM idle. Vista takes charge of your RAM, using it to speed up your computer."

That is like saying that 'having more money than you need is bad'... 'give it to US so it may be better used to make your new computer slower than your old one was ten years ago'.

Claims about speed increases by using VISTA are absolute lies!  Win 98 was faster than XP and Vista is slower than XP. But  let's not let things focus on trash when there are so many BETTER OS's to choose from.

No it isn't like saying "having more money than you need is bad". Because the whole point of having RAM, is that you're going to use it, silly. You don't 'save' RAM like money. As far as your horrid 'US' analogy goes, it's more like uh I don't know.. Giving the OS more RAM to work with (hur hur). Maybe you're trying to run Vista on a crappy machine. WIN98 was a horrid system, WIN2000 was much better. XP was better for gamers.

lol...   I corrected my inadvertant US reference (by removing the 'the'), but knew you would be touched :-)  The US mentioned was intended as  'US' (as opposed to 'THEM') You are showing your true colours. Fair enough. I have a patriotic streak too.

Other than that I can't find much to respond to. Sorry chum.
